NAACP/Cultural Appropriation
Write in your blog how the NAACP and Cultural Appropriation is relevant to the CNMI. Give examples.
The NAACP and the term 'cultural appropriation' are relevant to the CNMI because of the CNMI was founded, and because of some current events. Before the CNMI became the CNMI, there were many administrations from different countries. Since these countries were different, their cultures were different as well. During their administrative stay, it was inevitable that there would be intermingling between the administration whether it be, Spanish or Japanese, and the local people the CNMI. This led to the culture in the CNMI having some similarities to both Spain and Japan. One notable similarity and example of this, which many people would agree on, is how the Chamorro language is very similar to Spanish. I believe that the NAACP is relevant to the CNMI as well due to the current CW issues. There are and were many CW workers who fought to stay and work in the CNMI because they either had a family here, or because it would be very to difficult for them back in their homelands. Perhaps this issue intrigue the NAACP because these CW workers are people too, and they may find that they should support the CW workers because their objective is to "ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons."
