What is binge drinking? Why is it so common among young people and here in the CNMI? "Binge drinking is where a large amount of alcohol is consumed in a short period of time." (alcoholireland.ie/alcohol-and-you/binge-drinking/) According to the office of National Statistics for binge drinking, men consume 8 units in a single session while women consume 6 units in a single session. [By using the term 'units', I mean that they drink the given beer, for example.] Binge drinking is common to young people around the ages of 16-18 and it is a serious problem. Although the youth drink less than adults do, when they do drink, they drink more. That is because young people consume more than 90 percent of their alcohol by binge drinking. (National Institute on Alcohol and Alcoholism) Many young lives are put into danger because of binge drinking.
